SECOND MATCH WON

INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM HAWKE'S BAY BEATEN BY 17 TO NIL [Per United Press Association.) HASTINGS, May 16. Before an attendance of about 2,000 the visiting Indian hockey team played the second match of the dominion tour on M'Lean Park, Napier, this after; noon, defeating Hawke’s Bay by 17 goals to 0. The visitors’ play was altogether a revelation to New Zealand hockey players, being brilliant in the extrenie. Their combination was perfect, forwards and backs working together almost as one, but it was by their wonderful stick work that the game was won by such a large majority of goals. They have an astounding mastery of both stick and ball, so that when in the circle they are almost impossible to stop. Hawke’s Bay played good hockey, but it was of no avail against such play as the Indians produced. On several occasions Hawke’s Bay tested the Indians’ defence to the utmost, but here again incomparable stick work saved a score, although on one occasion a shot went just over the goal instead of into it. The crowd was most enthusiastic at the outstanding exhibition put up by the visitors and also the many flashes of good play by Hawke’s Bay. For the visitors Hup Singh scored seven goals, Dhyan Chand (his brother) six goals, and Wells four goals. The Indians were accorded ft civic reception at the Council Chambers before the match.
