DAIRY BOARD

LOCAL MARKETING OF BUTTER MEETINGS IN EACH CENTRE The Dairy Board has decided to hold meetings at each of the four main centres in the dominion for the purpose of taking evidence concerning local marketing problems, and these special meetings will be held as follows ; At Christchurch: On May 31 and June 1. At Dunedin: On June 4 and 6. At Auckland: On June 24 and 25. At Wellington; On July 3 and 4, The meeting at Dunedin on June 4 will be for the purpose of conferring on the question of the local marketing of butter, and the sitting on June 6 will be the usual ward conference, held in each of the districts annually. All the dairy factory representatives will bo. in town for the annual meeting of the South Island Dairy Association on June 5, -and the meetings of the Dairy Board have been called at an opportune time. The board has to consider how best to improve conditions of local marketing, so that much of the price cutting can be eliminated. _ A good deal of evidence of this was given to the Dairying Commission, but, as it was given under seal of privacy, the information obtained is not open to the hoard, which has therefore to obtain the information for itself. , It is hoped that, by holding meetings in each of the four centres, the board will be able to obtain the viewpoints of dairy companies interested in the local market, and will afterwards be able to formulate a scheme satisfactory to all concerned.
