Experiments are now being made at the Forest Products Research Laboratory, Princes Risbordugh (England), to grow trees without knots. If they succeed there will be a saving of several hundred thousands of pounds every year to the home-grown timber trade. Much timber which at present can only be used for rough purposes—such as cheap packing cases—will, be . fit- for finer work, such, as furniture making and constructional purposes.
