[Douglas Mackinuou Baillie Hamilton Cochrane, twelfth Earl of Dundonald, was horn in 1852, He entered the Life Guards in 1870 and served in flie Nile expedition, the relief of Khartum, and various South African battles. _ He was promoted major-general for dsitinguished service in 1900. _ Ho commanded the Canadian Militia from 1902 to 1904, and served in the* European War. He was chairman of the Admiralty Committee on Smoke Screens and special Ambassador to the Peruvian centenary in.1921.]
