LOST LUGGERS
PERTH, April 12.—1 tis now generally accepted at Broome that twenty-one luggers wore lost and 140 men arc dead as the result of the recent cyclone. ELECTION CAMPAIGN SHOULD COMMENCE OCTOBER. Mr Coates said to-day that he hoped to have the budgetary proposals practically complete by the time he arrived back in New Zealand. He is taking with him the preliminary draft, and while abroad will devote considerable attention to completing the Budget. Ho expressed the view that it would bo possible to complete the business of the session in a little over two months, thus allowing tiie election campaign to commence late in October.—Press Association. LONDON, April lE—The Stresa correspondent of ‘ The Times ’ says: “ The upshot of the first day, on the whole, lias been satisfactory and .encouraging, hut the discussions will not terminate before Saturday. France has misgivings at’the slowness of the progress, and feels that little time remains, owing to luncheons, dinners, and the opera, for the discussion of vital matters.” THE STOCK EXCHANGE.
