AUCKLAND WOOL SALE
RESPECTABLE ADVANCE ON FEBRUARY RATES [Per United P*iss Association.] AUCKLAND. March 29. Auckland’s final wool sale of the season opened this morning with a catalogue of approximately 12,000 bales, less some withdrawals by growers who decided at the last minute not to, face the sale. These will probably be disappointed, for the sale is proceeding better than was expected. A slight firmness was anticipated, but the line values is from id to fd up on the last Auckland sale. The class of wool offered is on a par with that usually available for the third fixture of the season, which means that a fair proportion is in indifferent condition. With two small and one large catalogue completed, the top price for fine cross-breds is lOJci per lb. Southdowns have brought 9id, and crutch- , ings up to Sid. There is a marked improvement in the demand for lambs wool, and a noticeable feature has been the keenness with which buyers bid up for wools reclassed in 'the stores. Bidding as a whole is very animated, with Bradford securing the bulk of the offering. . - The wool sale continued steady to the end. Ninety per cent, of the catalogue* was cleared, the price a bale being from £7 15s to £B, at an average price of 6d a lb, being an increase of $d on the January sale. It is estimated that the total realisation of wool to-day would be £85,000.
