An hour of humorous sketches pertaining to broadcasting should prove an entertaining feature of 4YO’s programme on Monday night, while on Wednesday a symphonic programme will appeal to those who appreciate this class of music. West week Harry Thurston (character comedian), Vincent Aspey (violinist), and Lioncila Cecil (operatic vocalist) are to appear in the programmes. as * * * The results of the announcing competition recently held by 4ZW are as follow; —Mr Roland Watson 1, Mr Rutherford Lee 2. A special “continuity ’’ programme is being arranged for ail early date, and listeners will have the opportunity of hearing the first placed competitor, who will officiate at the microphone during the broadcast. * * * * Mr Lionello Cecil, who lias been engaged by the New Zealand Broadcasting Board on a contract to sing from the principal stations, arrived in Wellington from Sydney by the Marama last week, accompanied by his wife and small son. Mr Cecil spent a week in Wellington and then visited Christchurch. He then conics to Dunedin, returning to Wellington later. * * * * At the Lyttelton Court the other day, a woman who had been charged with failing to license her radio set pleaded by letter that she had eight children, ’and her husband was in casual employment only. The assistant radio inspector remarked that on his rounds in Christchurch he had paid visits to certain houses in which there was practically no furniture—not even chairs for the family to sit on—yet the tenants had radio sets, in some cases up to £4O in value. » * * « A series of talks on ‘ Commonsenso Economics ’ is being given from 4ZW every Wednesday evening by Miss M. H. M. King.
