SUPPORT FOR THE CHAMPION BAND.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—lt is pleasing to read the reference at the City Council’s meeting to the success attained at the recent band contest by the St. Kilda Band. The suggestion of His Worship the Mayor to the Finance Committee, I trust, will be acted upon. Christchurch City Council provided an example of regard to culture and civic pride by voting £IOO from its unauthorised expenditure account to aid the Woolsion Band to proceed to the Melbourne centenary festival. As a citizen I am gratified when distinction comes south, a sentiment that must bo shared by many. Let us evidence our appreciation in a practical manner. You, sir, might be good enough to open a subscription list in your columns. In anticipation of such a favour I enclose £lO to the same.—l am, etc., J. Trengeove.

[We shall be pleased to receive subscriptions for such a purpose.—Ed. E.S.]
