BORIS KARLOFF IN ‘ THE BUCK CAT • Two dynamic personalities in Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi meet for the first time with startling result in 1 The Black Cat,’ which opens at the Strand on Friday. 1 The Black Cat ’ is an extremely well-acted mystery-drama, in which the leading roles are played by those two well-known screen “ monsters ” Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. The' film is based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe, and it exceeds all other mysteries of the screen for thrills. The story tells of a feud between Karloff and Lugosi which comes to crisis in a lonely house, a veritable fortress on a stretch of marshland. Into this strange and weird place an unfortunate young couple, victims of a car smash, are drawn. Before they leave that house a series of mysterious, sinister, and fast-moving happenings occurs, in which the dreaded “ Black Cat ” takes a large part. David Manners and Jacqueline Wells play the parts of the young couple, while Lucille Lund also figures prominently in the supporting cast.
