BRITAIN'S SLUM CLEARANCE SCHEME A BILL INTRODUCED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright* LONDON, January 17. • (Received January 18, at 2 p.m.) Britain’s great slum tlearance scheme appears in the text of the*Housing Bill, involving ambitious plans for dealing with overcrowding and the redeveloping of central residential districts in large, congested towns.
The measure seeks, without delay, to provide accommodation without undue disturbance of. large populations, ah’ rents within the scope of the wage earners. The Bill legally defines over* crowding, and provides a penalty of £5,plus £3 for each day that overcrowding continues.
Big subsidies arc envisaged, and include at least £6 yearly per flat for forty years from the State, plus £3 front the local authority. ‘
