AN EXCELLENT POTATO

Why is it that so many are so prejudiced against “ blue,” or purple potatoes? (asks a contributor to ‘ Popular Gardening,’ London). Every greengrocer I have discussed the question, with has remarked, gloomily, “ There’s no . market for purple potatoes; folk won’t by ’em.” Yet Arran Victory is a splendid potato, well-shaped as a rule, a heavy cropper, and a good keeper ; a fine fluffy potato, too, with remarkably white flesh. Is it to be barred by “the colour question?” This year’s crop tends to produce over-large tubers, and .the late arrival' of the rain has caused some second t growers, but the same applies to other varieties as well. Arran Victory is essentially a “ poor man’s potato,” because of its bearing and keeping qualities, but it should be a welcome addition on any table.
