RAIDS AND ARRESTS REPORTS OF SPYING Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 10. The ‘ Daily Herald ’ says: “ Details of a series of raids and arrests at Singapore being cabled to London, giving rise to allegations of Japanese espionage, have caused a most delicate situation. The sensation commenced when Mr NisHimura, a leading Japanese business man at Singapore, dropped dead last week while being questioned at the offices of the Singapore C.I.D. It was then revealed that the police possessed documents implicating two Japanese secret intelligence officers who were visiting Singapore. Raids on hotels and houses followed. The situation is more difficult because twenty-one British warships are now at i Singapore for manoeuvres to test the defence of the station.” OFFICIAL STATEMENT UNLIKELY LONDON, December 10. (Received December 11, at "10 a.mi) The Government'has received several dispatches from the Governor in connection with the Singapore .espionage case, but a statement is unlikely pending further investigations.
