BRITAIN ON TOP
Speaking of ‘ Your Part in Prosperity ” at a luncheon of the Islington Chamber of Commerce, Sir Charles Higham said that while there was no doubt that Great Britain was sitting on top of the world to-day and was the only country where very few people were homeless or without food, and where money was safe in the hank and trade was getting better, every one of them had still to play his part, which was, in his judgment, to get on with the job. It was of no use talking about “ booms ” or saying that things were all right and that there was no need to make too great an effort. It was because so many of them had put their backs into the job during the last ten years that the tide of trade, prosperity, and happiness was coming their way again. Any going hack to complacency was a retrograde step. They must still bestir themselves.
Opportunity was everywhere. Never were the chances for young men and •women to get on so good as to-day. The London stores had had record business this month, due to their giving sound goods at reasonable 'prices and telling the world that they had got them. Newspaper advertising was paying as it had never paid for years, because the people were realising that they must not save all, but spend a part.
