AT THEIR HOME TOWN
TUMULTUOUS WELCOME TO CENTENARY AIRMEN [Per United Press AssooiATjjrf.] PALMERSTON N., Novemb* 14. A tumultuous reception was accorded Squadron-leader M'Grcgor and Mr H. C. Walker on their arrival this afternoon, escorted by fourteen planes. Nearing the Milson aerodrome the Miles Hawk outpaced the escort to dart down out of the sky at 175 miles an hour, until it was only 100 ft over the heads of the cheering multitude. The Milson aerodrome never witnessed such scenes before nor such a large crowd. The Minister of Defence, Mr Cobbe, who was among those who welcomed the aviators, stated that it was a red letter day in the history of aviation in New Zealand. The fact that M'Gregor and Walker were fifth in the race bespoke skill and courage deserving the highest commendation. Squadron-leader M‘Gregor could oceupv in New Zealand aviation a position similar to that occupied by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith in Australia.
