COMEDY, THRILLS, AND ROMANCE

REGENT'S ATTRACTION The Regent offers superlative entertainment in its new attraction commencing to-morrow. The picture is entitled ‘ Freedom of the Seas,’ and is a comedy of thrills, romance, and adventure based on the play by Walter Hackett, and directed by Marcel Varnel, “ Ace ” Hollywood director. The opening scenes show Smith as a timid clerk in a lawyer’s office—bullied by his boss and scorned by the latter’s pretty daughter, with whom he is hopelessly in love, eventually losing his job when he endeavours to assert himself. An interested friend who is convinced that Smith is made of sterner stuff ami needs a little encouragement, uses his influence, and lands him in the navy, where he obtains a commission, and from here tense excitement predominates in a series of fast-moving events that take place on a tramp steamer, of which Smith is put in charge. - His courage and determination to save the steamer when he discovers it is in danger of being torpedoed, are inspired by tho fact that the girl he loves is on board, and he finally wins through with her to share his triumph. Clifford Mollison as the hero undoubtedly scores a big personal hit in this film, equally successful in the comedy as well as the dramatic sequences; whilst the lovely Wendy Barrie, who attracted much attention by her performance in ‘ The Private Life of Henry YUL,’ again stands out in the feminin.e lead, as the deriding maiden who only reveals her heart to Smith when he is faced by the gravest clanger.
