PRICE OF BREAD

SYDNEY LOAF, 51D DELIVERED In view of the statement frequently made that the sliding scale of duties has caused an increase in the price of bread, it is interesting to note that the master bakers of Sydney decided to increase (as from August 13) the price of the 21b loaf by a farthing a loaf, consequent on the increase in the price of flour. An advance of £1 7s 6d a ton in flour is equivalent to an increase of a farthing a loaf in bread, and between May 30 and August 13 the price of flour advanced from £7 5s to £9 15s a ton. Another 5s advance in flour, making the advance £2 15s, will mean a further farthing increase. The new price of the 21b loaf as from August 13 is SUI.
