AMATEUR CYCLING

MEETING OF CENTRE The monthly meeting of the Otago Amateur Cycling Centre was presided over by Mr C. G. Lucas (chairman), Messrs A. Ockwell, C, G. Lucas, PI. W. Laws, J. Fletcher, and C. Gilchrist. The third bulletin issued by the N.Z.A.C.A. was received.

In regard to the relations of, the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association and the New Zealand Cycling Federation, it was agreed that the centre endorse the lines of procedure adopted by the council—namely, failing an amicable settlement, to await the result of the annual meeting of the N.Z.A.C. and Axemen’s Union in bringing the matter to an amicable settlement.

The council report stated that clubs must communicate with the association only through their centres. A copy of the constitution and rules of the N.Z.A.C.A. was received. A list of amendments to proposed constitution of N.Z.A.C.A. was received from the bon. sec (Mr T. Knife) of the Canterbury Amateur Cycling Centre. After a lengthy discussion it was agreed that the amendments be recommended to the council, with several alterations and additions.

The Secretary (.Mr I''. Greenfield) advised having received a deed of trust from. the secretary (Mr H. Pearce) Pacific Harrier and A.A. Club, drawn up between his club and the cycling centre, in connection with the transfer of eleven cups from the Pacific Club to the centre. The following members were appointed as trustees for the cycling centre;—Messrs A. Ockwell, C. G. Lucas, and If. H. Greenfield. It was moved by Mr Lucas that the accept the cups under the conditions as set out in the deed.—The motion, which was seconded by Mr Gilchrist, was carried. It was decided that the fifty-mile road cycling championship be held on September 15 and be controlled by the centre. The race will start at 1.45.

The Chairman (Mr C. A. Lucas) stated that, owing to the expenses attached to the Invercargill-Dunedin race, it was found necessary to reduce the prize list for the fifty-mile event. A tentative prize list was drawn up as follows, to be confirmed at a future meeting of the centre:—First, Begg’s challenge cup, gold medal (donated by Mr Stevenson), and miniature, value 15s (donatde by Mr A. Ockwell); second, silver medal (gold centre), trophy order value 10s; third, tyre and tube; fourth, silver medal; fastest time, Dawson challenge cup, gold medal, and championship riband; second fastest time, silver medal (gold centre); fastest time, junior, championship riband; teams’ race, Teachters’ challenge cup and four medallions. The offers of Mr C. A. Lucas and Mr A. Ockwell to contribute towards the prize list was received with thanks. It was decided to apply to the O.M.C. (motor cycle section) for assistance on the day of the race.
