CLAY BIRD SHOOTING

OUHEDIH GUN CLUB On Saturday the annual competition for the M'Bride Memorial Cup was held at the Dunedin Gun Club’s shooting grounds at Green Island. Under very bad lighting conditions a wonderful performance was put up by A. Callaghan, who broke every bird in the /two matches held. In the shoot for the M'Bride Memorial Cup he broke the possible, twenty-one birds, and in the Double Rise event he again got the possible, six birds. Callaghan has been shooting very consistently lately, and fully deserved his win in the two events. The runner-up, V. Walker, who broke twenty birds, has also been shooting well, and more should be heard about him in the future. A noteworthy feature in tho match was the improvement in some of the newer members. The detailed results are as follow: M'Bride Memorial Cup.—A. Callaghan, 21 birds (16 first barrel), 1; V. Walker, 20 birds (18 first barrel), 2; K. Begg, J. Stiven, H. Brookes, C. Wilson, 19 birds each, 3 (equal). Three-pair Double Rise.—A. Callaghan and W. Mason, six birds, 1 (equal). These were followed by G. R. M'Kenzie and I. M. Styche (five birds), five further competitors being next with four birds. The President (Mr G. E. Turner) presented the cup to Mr Callaghan, congratulating him on his performance, and Mr Callaghan replied, thanking the president for his kind remarks Mr Turner then, on behalf of the members, bade farewell to Mr G. R. M'Kenzie, who has changed his residence to Wellington.
