ORKNEY AND SHETLAND CHOIR

An enjoyable concert was presented by the Orkney and Shetland Choir in the R.S.A. Hall on Saturday evening. The president (Mr H. M'Douald) was in the chair. The choir, under the baton of Miss Ruby Baxter, sang the part songs ‘ Hardy Norsemen ’ and ‘ John Anderson.’ The next items were contributed by Miss Betty Pocock, who sang ‘ Within a Mile ’ and ‘ Pipes of Pan.’ Miss Mavis M'Cormiek then rendered two violin solos, including ‘ Scottish Airs,’ and Mr Pringle was heard singing ‘ 0 gin 1 were a Baron’s Heir ’ and ‘ Scotland Yet.’ Recitations given by Miss Toner were * Lorraine, Lorraine, Loree ’ and ‘ After the Marriage.’ The next songs heard were tenor solos, 1 Bonnie Wee Thing ’ and ‘ Sunshine of Your Smile,’ by Mr Ernest Paris. Humorous items, ‘ Hey, Donall’ and ‘ A South Sea Haggis,’ contributed by Mr George Watson, caused much amusement. A beautiful song and chorus, ‘ Dream Boat,’ was given by the choir, the solo part being taken by the conductor, Miss Ruby Baxter. The elocutionary items by Miss Nell Moffat-were fully appreciated, and being twice recalled she gave ‘ Country Competitions ’ and 1 Packing.’ Master Robert Watkins, a boy soprano, was accorded warm applause for his solos ‘ Bird Songs at Eventide ’ and 1 Love is Meant to Make Us Glad.’ Miss Hill sang ‘ Flora Macdonald’s Lament ’ and ‘ Jock o’ Hazcldcan.’ The choir then concluded with the part song ‘ Mary.’ After supper a dance was held till midnight, the AI.C. being Air N. M'Donald. The choir accompaniments were played hy Aliss (!. Mildon-. and for the soloists by Aliss Alona Bnmton.
