SECRET HANGARS
IN POMERANIAN FOREST ACCOMMODATION FOR BOMBERS Pres* Association— By Telegraph—Copyright. ' LONDON, May 19. The ‘ Daily Mail’s ’ Strasbourg correspondent says: “Newspapers report the existence of underground aeroplane hangars in the forest at Griefswalde, Pomerania, with accommodation for sixty bombing machines.” NEW GERMAN AIRPORT DESIGNED FOR MILITARY PURPOSES. LONDON, May 20. (Received May 21, at 12.30 p.m.) The ‘ Daily Express ’ publishes an. air mail article despatched by Mr Pembroke Stephens just prior to his arrest, in which he describes the largest aerodrome in Germanyand probably in Europe, situated at Celle, a few miles from the civil aerodrome in Hanover. “ There is, therefore, no commercial justification for the new airport,” he states, “ which is designed purely for military purposes. It is surrounded by woods and is invisible from road or rail. Not even Storm Troopers are admitted. Three huge hangars have been completed and workmen are busy constructing barracks for pilots and mechanics. Excavations are being made for subterranean bomb-proof shelters for both planes .and personnel. There are huge camouflaged petrol containers and greygreen mounted mechanised wagons. Germany 'has now no visible military air fleet, but it really exists scattered throughout Germany—engines in one factory, wings in another, and bodies elsewhere—awaiting either the Powers’ authority or a breakdown of the Disarmament Conference for immediate assembly. Quantities of American and British engines are being imported.”
