O.R.F.U. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE Mr John Mitchell presided at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union held last evening. A letter was received from the Otago University Club pointing out that tile Hag matches on Juno 4. occur during the students’ vacation. The club will be playing Dunedin on June 2 with-a depleted team, and if it had to play on June 4 it would mean another weakened team. The vacation did not end till June o.—On the motion of Mr H. Harris it was decided to write to the University Club pointing out that the committee would appreciate if the club could play on June 4, but if unable to do so the match would be played at the end of the season if necessary. Charges of misconduct of certain members, of the Zingari-Riehinoud third grade team which went, to Brighton on Saturday to play the local team -were made by the referee (Mr N. J. Caldwell). —It was decided to ask the Zingari Club to hold an inquiry into the allegations. Confirmation of September 8 as the date for the match against Wellington and September 5 for the South Canterbury match was received from the respective unions. The Green Island Club asked permission to play two players over age in a proposed fourth grade team. was pointed out by members that the players were eligible to play third grade and the request was declined. ,B. Bezett was refused a transfer from Zingari-Richmond to' Green Island. S. Newman was granted a transfer from Pirates (Nelson) to Pirates (Dunedin). It was resolved, in reply to an inquiry from the Southland Union,, that no objection would be taken to players from the Albion Club .(Gore) and Mataura Club being included in the Southland sub-union’s team. These players were at present playing in the Invercargill senior competition.
Mr E. J. Sheridan, referee in the third grade match Dunedin-Green Island, at Hancock Park on Saturday, reported having ordered off a Green .Island player for misconduct.—lt was decided to ask the referee and the player to appear before the committee at the next meeting. Th Secretary of the Eastern District Sub-union advised that his body had suspended a member of the Palmerston Club for using insulting language to Mr J. Gordon, the county selector, and also in respect to the sub-union and its secretary. The incident did not happen on the football field.—lt was decided to take no action until a full report had been received from the Eastern District Sub-union. A letter was received from jjae Dunedin Club withdrawing its fifth grade team from the competition.—The notification was referred to the Flag Committee. Jt was decided to write thanking Mr F. 1 Farley, chairman of the Kaikorai Football Ground Company for the past forty-one years, who has decided to retire (from the position, for his valuable services during his long term of office. SUB-UNION’S TEAM. The following nominations were received for the position of selector of the Otago sub-union’s team to play Southland sub-union’s team :—Messrs J. Gordon (Eastern Districts and South Otago), A. Aitcheson (Maniototo), A. E. Ottrey (West Otago), C. Jackman (South Tuapeka), and F. Donnelly (Vincent). On a ballot being taken Mr Donnelly was appointed. For the position of manager the following nominations were received Messrs J. Morgan (Maniototo), J. Gordon. L. M. Jolly (Vinceift), L. W. G. MTvenzie (West Otago). The ballot resulted in the appoint ment of Mr Morgan. Letters were received from all of the Otago sub-unions agreeing to extend the tour of the team to other districts.
