WIDESPREAD ACTIVITIES It is seventeen years since the Petrous Tile Company Ltd. first started in the roofing business, and it can now claim to be a specialist in all classes of roofing work. Some of the largest contracts for roofing in New Zealand have been executed by the company. Amongst the largest contracts are included the dome of the basilica at Invercargill in copper shingles,' the Dunedin fire station in concrete tiles, the grand stand at Logan Park in Abbotsford tiles, and several large goods sheds for the Otago Harbour Board and the New Zealand Railways in corrugated asbestos sheets. The company will bo starting shortly the slate roof of the new hospital at Invercargill. This is one of the largest slate roofs in New Zealand.

Besides roofing, the company has added other lines to its operations—i.e., the manufacture of concrete washtubs, pumice coppers (gas and fuel), concrete cisterns, concrete pickling tanks, all classes of terrazzo and marble work, also cork and rubber flooring. The company has extended its operations throughout New Zealand, and has branches at Wellington, Christchurch, and Invercargill. The company employs a large number of skilled workmen, and 95 per cent, of its products are made from New Zealand materials.
