Wool prices soared at the, second Christchurch sale iu January, and Arnold Spencer Wilson decided to do a little speculating on his own account. H© started by plucking the wool from a dead sheep at West Melton. This effort was profitable, so _he became bolder, and transferred his operations to Christchurch, stealing wool from a bale standing in a truck outside a Christchurch store. He sold the wool without difficulty, but the slit bale provoked inquiry, with the result that Wilson appeared iu the Magistrate’s Court to-day. He was described as a labourer, twenty-five years old, and faced seven charges relating to the theft of wool sacks, a bicycle, and other goods. He pleaded guilty to four of these and not guilty to the other three, but was convicted and sentenced to eighteen months’ reformative detention.
