SWIMMING

BATHS FOR MOSGIEL Cr Steven introduced the matter o, swimming baths at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council. They would be welcomed, and should prove self-supporting. Gravel and cement were cheap at present, and with the I exception of a few dressing rooms little I else was required. On the suggestion of the Mayor, Cr Steven asked that the Reserves Committee bring up a report as to costs and other details. Cr Hartstqnge congratulated Cr Steven on bringing the matter forward, and he hoped the proposal would take effect. A public meeting might be called, Cr Smeaton said he hoped it would “ speed up a bit.” To his knowledge the matter had cropped up periodically for forty years. The Mayor related the efforts of one council to dam the Silverstroam. The first fresh in the stream carried away the dam, and at a second attempt the bank nas washed away. Public baths would be an acquisition, and he wished the proposal success.
