NEW VARIETY BILL FOR GRAND Owing to the delay in the arrival from Australia of the film ‘ 1 Was a Spy,’ this picture will not be the next change at the - Grand Theatre, as anticipated. but will have its New Zealand premiere at the Grand on February 16. The next change at the Grand will he a double-feature bill. The first picture will be a comedy entitled ‘ Olsen’s Big Moment,’ starring El Brendel, the Swedish comedian, together with Barbara Weeks and Walter Catlett. Brendel plays the role of a janitor in an apartment house, who tries to natch up various broken romances, ■ and he gives his audience plenty to laugh about. Brendel finds it hard to get away in his duties as janitor for his night out. On another floor in the same house a society matron is trying to persuade her daughter to marry Walter Catlett, a wealthy bachelor. The daughter refuses on the grounds that she loves somebody else, and Brendel is unfortunately forced into patching up the romance. In his endeavours to do the right thing ho finds himself wound up in a series of complications that eventually gets him into trouble, but he manages to bring about a happy endto the entire affair. The second picture is a drama of unusual theme, entitled ‘ The Mad Game,’ starring Spencer Tracy. Tracy portrays the part of an ex-gangster, who is “ double-crossed ” by Id’s associates and sent'to prison for a five-year term. His former aide terrorises the country with his new-found “racket.” Tracy is released from prison to help the authorities in wiping out this naw dread. His knowledge or the underworld soon gains Tracy an entrance into the dominating ring of kidnappers.
