ST. KILDA COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING Present at the fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council last night- were the deputy-mayor (Cr A. D. Edgar) and Crs H. H. Leary, J. A. Carman. G. Glue, W. G. Baird, R. J. B. Griffiths, E. W. Hunter, S. Hartley, and N. D. Anderson. Applications for use of the Coronation Hall for Saturday night dances were received from the St. Kilda Unemployed Association and the Gaiety Dance Syndicate. The former body also applied for the hall for Tuesday nights, the cost of lighting only to be paid.—lt was decided that the Unemployed Association be granted use of the hall at a fee of 30s a night, subject to the conditions agreed upon last year. Free use of the Coronation Hall was granted the Mayor’s Relief Committee for the purpose of holding Sunday night concerts in aid of the mayor’s relief depot. Co-operation was sought by the Mayor of Dunedin for the combined meeting of protest to the Government on account of the insufficient relief being granted to relief workers. The meeting had been called lor Thursday night next. WORKS. Reporting on works carried out in the borough during the past two weeks the Borough Foreman stated that several streets ami footpaths had been patched. Spoil had been carted, and spalls had been carted for the Victoria road kerb and wall. About 100 relief workers had been engaged in the borough during the period, grassing streets, building the kerb and wall in Victoria road, and sweeping water channels. It was recommended or the ensuing fortnight that the footj ath in Richardson street be tar-sealed, thar Queen’s drive be tar-sealed, and that other streets be patched.—Adopted. WATER CONSUMPTION. During the fortnight ended that day the water consumption of the borough had been 4,331,000 gallons, at a cost of £IOB 5s 6d. This was reported by the town clerk.—Noted. FINANCE. Accounts amounting to £2.493 12s 2d were passed for payment.—The Chairman of the Finance Committee (Cr Leary) reported that rates collected in the iiorough to February 3 amounted to £2,307 12s 7d. The rates outstanding amounted to £1,410 2s 3d,
