The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Ltd. has received the following cabled advice from its London house, dated January 31:— Butter,'66s; market slow. Cheese: White, '42s; coloured, 445; market steady. TALLOW MARKET. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office, dated January 31: — Tallow: There is a fair demand. Current quotations—good mutton, 22s to 22s 6d per cwt; good beef, 20s 6d to 21s.,per cwt; good mixed, 20s to 20s 6d pSr-.qwt; gut, 17s 6d to 19s per cwt. MOUNT LYELL -OPERATIONS, The Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Co. Ltd., states that, owing to lack of rainfall, it was not possible to resume smelting last week as intended, and as the stocks of blister copper are now exhausted refining operations have also been suspended. The production of ore from the mines and treatment in the concentrating mill will be continued, and the concentrates produced stored until smelting can be resumed. There is no danger of interruption to milling unless the dry spell continues for more, than three weeks longer.
