TEA PRICES INCREASE. A Wellington Association message states that the price of proprietary teas was increased to-day by 2d. The increase is said to be be due to the cumulative effect Jiigh exchange, Customs duties, sales taxj a-nd rising prices at overseas auctions. A increase is likely. SANITARY INSPECTORS’ CONFERENCE. “ Our calling is an ancient as well as an honourable one. As a matter of fact, Moses was the first member of it when he led his children for forty years through the wilderness without plague or pestilence,” remarked Mr E. Grant, of Napier, retiring president of the New Zealand Sanitary Inspectors’ Association, at the opening of the annual conference in Napier to-day. The conference, besides transacting formal business, has a social programme. The delegates were accorded a civic reception to-day. The conference is being attended by thirty delegates, many accompanied by their wives, from all parts of New Zealand. Mr W. B. Gough, of Petone, was elected president, and Mr R. Day, of New Plymouth, vice-president.—Napier Association message. NATIVE CLERK’S THEFTS. Henare Poananga, a clerk in the employ of the Native Land Department, pleaded guilty in the Police Court today to the theft of £6 3s Gd, the property of the Government, and was admitted to probation. Detective M‘Leod stated that the accused had been stationed at Ruatoria in connection with the development scheme and unemployment relief, and had drawn a cheque for work that had not been completed, and kept the proceeds. The magistrate made an order for restitution of the money.—Gisborne Association message.
