ANNIVERSARY DAY
CELEBRATIONS IN AUCKLAND [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, January 29. Auckland’s Anniversary Day is being celebrated in perfect weather—rSdiant sunshine tempered by a mild north-easterly just strong enough to suit the hundreds of craft which participated in the traditional anniversaryday regatta. There was a continuous stream of people this morning to the wharves, where they embarked'in large and small craft for trips on the harbour or the Hauraki Gulf. The cruiser Diomede, which is anchored in mid-har-bour, is acting as flagship for the regatta,. All the oversea ships in port have dressed ship for the occasion, and tho, German barque Magdalene Vinnen looked specially picturesque. The • were large attendances at the Takapuna races and the Auckland < tennia finals, and many went to Waiheke for the New Zealand tourist trophy motor cycle contest.
