Matters in the mining world are still proceeding quietly, and while nothing sensational has been produced of late, quite a number of concerns are steadily at work, says the Alexandra ‘ Herald.’ There is still a great deal of activity on the Nevis field, to which considerable material is being regularly transported. ' The small dredge at Nevis Crossing, which has been idle for some years, is to be put in commission again. It was recently purchased from the original owners, and some of the crew have gone over to the job. . Several loads of timber have already been landed on the claim foi; the Bendigo Goldlight dredge. Regular consignments will continue to go forward, and the erection of the dredge will no doubt be put in hand in the hear future. . , Tenders for. the New Bendigo lowlevel tunnel closed ten days , ago, but so far there is no word of any tender being accepted. 1 Conversation last week with a wellknown dredgeman of earlier years revived memories of, the famous boom period of dredging. He said that the machine now known as the “ Freshford ’! was the original Bannockburn Creek cjredge,; which first went from Bannockburn to Waikaka. • ■ -
