MINING RESEARCH COMPANY
A meeting of directors of the Mining Research Company was held at Christchurch on Monday last, when reports from Messrs H. S- Burleigh, H. Vickerman, J. Henderson, arid G. M. Powell, the engineers who had reported on the company’s property at Golden Gully, Collingwood, were read. In view of the nature of these reports it was decided that an operating company should be formed for the purpose of sluicing all the suitable ground and for boring an area of approximately 500 acres at the ''mouth of the Para Para Inlet, which is regarded as well suited for dredging. -The information contained in the various reports suggested that a conservative estimate of the value of wash dirt would be Is per yard, and it is estimated that operating costs will not exceed 2d per yard. Mr Burleigh’s tests from eighteen samples averaged 19s 9d per yard. Mr G. M. Powell (Westport), who spent a considerable time on the property, considered the values particularly good, and the water supply and pressure ideal.
