BURNS ANNIVERSARY

The .world over, wherever Scotsmen gather, there is celebrated the birth of Scotland’s bard, Robert Burns. In all true Scottish hearts he stands immortal; His love songs, with their wistful tenderness, and his martial songs, breathing patriotism and high independence,' have caused him to be revered and honoured wherever the Scottish tongue is spoken. From a humble “ clay biggin ’ in Ayrshire with little offering .in the way of education Burns, in the short space of thirty-eight years, left to the world a wealth of poetry that raised him to almost the highest in the land. The Dunediu Burns Club will honour the occasion by presenting in His Majesty’s Theatre tonight an entertainment embodying the finest of his works. Misses Mary Pratt, Alva Myers, and Noni Davidson, Messrs Arthur Macdonald and Alfred Walmsley will be warmly "received in their vocal numbers, while Miss Eva Judd, Mrs T. J. Kirk-Burnnand, and Mr Lloyd Hunter will render stirring instrumental numbers. The skirl of the pipes, national dances, and the Burns Choir will further add to the entertainment, and Mr J. B. Thomson, of Wellington, a Burns enthusiast, _ will bo heard in some of the gems from his works.
