Company) reiterated his views against subsidised foreign shipping, and said that, whereas the Empire before the • war owned 43 per cent, of tho world’s sea-going tonnage, the percentage ,to-day had fallen to 29. The Empire’would .'have to speak with one voice as to whether British shipping, which was their only reliable link and sure defence, should continue to he worn down.

The Prime Minister _ . (Mr Lyons') spoke on the same su'bject, and said that the negotiations between the various Governments were still uncompleted, but were progressing toward a satisfactory solution. .
