The death roll in the Yangtse River shipping disaster is now estimated at 200. The rescued passengers claim that the vessel was set on fire by pirates, ten of whom escaped in two small boats after; throwing casks of tallow and cotton into the engine room. Their plans to loot the vessel were upset, as the vessel grounded o'n a sandbank.
