• Mrs Richard Hudson returned from Timaru at the beginning of the week.
Mrs D. C. Rose left for Christchurch on Thursday, where she expects to spend the next fortnight. Her daughter. Miss Gleaner Rose, of Wanganui, will be holiday-making in Christchurch at the same time.
Mr and Mrs Gerald W. Lane have returned'from a tour of the porth and have taken up their v 'residence at 48 Elm row..
Mr and Mrs F. Reid and Mr D. Reid returned on Wednesday after spending the week-end in Roxburgh, Cromwell, and Queenstown.
Miss Constance Hughes returned home to-day after a month’s holiday in Wellington, where she was the guest of Mrs W. i Foley.
Miss Kathleen Pike is the guest of Mrs Burnside at iWaipiata, Central Otago. Miss Mary M‘Rae, of Dunedin, is at present the guest of Miss Ena Don, Sawdon,” Mackenzie Country.
The Misses Nancy Haig and Joyce Caldwell, of Mornington, are spending the holidays at Moeraki.
Mrs W. Peterson, of Hamilton, and Miss Peterson, of Auckland, are spending some weeks in the South Island, and while in Dunedin are the guests of Mrs J. T. Martin, Tolcarne avenue.
Afiss Ray Cogan arrived from Australia on Thursday' afternoon and is the guest of Miss Mackerras, George street.
Miss Anna Briasco was a passenger by the second express on Tuesday for Timaru, .where she will be the guest of her cousin, Mrs Knowles, for some time.
Miss N. E. Ockenden, of Auckland, who' has recently returned from India, where she was the guest' of the late Dr Besant, in the beautiful Theosophical headquarters at Madras, is at present in Dunedin as the guest of Miss C. Dalziel. She also attended Mr Krishnamurti’s camp in India. Miss Ockenden will give two Sunday lectures in this city.
Miss Estelle Burnard was hostess at a pantry evening given in honour of Miss Zeita Gore, who is to be a January bride. Many useful and practical gifts were received. The hours sped all too quickly arid pleasantly in musical items and games. Amongst those present were Miss Zeita Gore, F. Stark, E, Coupar, M.. Armit, M. Bott, D. Thomas, A. Morewood, P. Clare, B. Farquharson, V. Gore, V. Burnard, D. Bezett, and Mrs R. Burnard.
The Misses Little returned from Wellington on Thursday night. They are at present the. guests of Mrs H. C. Campbell, Mornington.
Mrs J. L. Herbert arrived from the south last evening. She has been the guest of Mrs A, S. Herbert at “ Toropee Re,” Kelso, this week.
Mrs MacKillop has gone to Wanaka, where she expects to spend the next fortnight.
Miss G. M. Glanville, of Fendalton, Christchurch, who has been spending a few days with the Misses Barth (Musselburgh) left yesterday for Timaru.
Mr and Mrs G. D. Connor, of Stafford street, and their son have returned from a month’s holiday spent at Roxburgh, On. Wednesday. evening Mrs Ibbot,son gave a bridge’ party for Miss Effie Gilkison, a visitor from Nelson, The guests'were:—Mr and Mrs H. A. C. M‘Arthur, Mrs Lough, Mrs E. J. P. Denny, Mrs R. Gilkison, Miss Ensor, and Miss Gilkison.
Last Wednesday morning at the home of the bride’s parents the marriage took place of Jessie Mary Frances, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Simon Mackenzie, Otumarima, Timaru, and John Edward? Downes, only son of Mr and Mrs James A. Roberts, Dunedin. The wedding was a very quiet one, only immediate relatives of the bride and bridegroom being present.
Mrs James Potheringham gave a four-table bridge party at the Otago Women’s Club yesterday afternoon in honour of Mrs MacKillop.
■ The engagement is announced of Lorraine of Mr and Mrs Arthur M. Sidey, Dunedin, and’ Robert David, eldest son of Mr and Mrs R. W. Morrow, Fendalton, Christchurh.
Miss Marjorie Butler is at present spending an extended holiday at Oamaru. She is staying with her sister, Mrs Potts, Witham street.
Mr and Mrs G. W. Johnstone have returned from a pleasant holiday spent at “ Gottesbrook,” Middlemarch. Miss Maude Farrant, of Wellington, and late of Dunedin, who has been the guest of Mrs Monk, St. Clair, returns to the north by the first express on Monday. The Australian mail brings news of Mr and Mrs John Leech, who are holi-day-making in Sydney. They had just returned from a delightful three days’ tour to the Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves. They had met many prominent musical people, and were the guests of honour at the final night for 1933 of the Music Lovers’ Club. Among the New' Zealanders present were Mr and Mrs Astley Black, Mrs Prentice (Miss Nellie Black), and Mrs, F. Messenger, who was Miss Ivy Mazengarb.
