It is intended to devote some space in each Saturday’s issue to items of interest to croquet players. The secretaries of the various clubs are asked to send in notes to “ Diana ” not later than Wednesday in each week. Correspondence is invited and inquiries as to fine points of the game or other matters connected with croquet will be answered as far as possible. Personal. Mesdames W. and A. The results of all events are now known, and we heartily congratulate our Otago player, Mrs W. Corbet (Opoho Club) on carrying off the open championship, and also with her partner, Mrs Buchler (Punga Club) on winning the open doubles. These two ladies, by their excellent play, have put Otago on the croquet map. Their play during the New Zealand tournament will be watched with interest. In consequence of their play, Mrs Corbet’s bisques have been reduced to £ and Mrs Buchler’s .to I). Mrs Read (Watea Club) has had her handicap confirmed at eight bisques. Annual Meeting of Council. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Council was held in the United Club’s pavilion on Thursday, Captain Hartnell (president) being in the chair, and there were delegates present from all associations, with the exception of Nelson and North Auckland. The re[Kirt showed a very successful year, with an increase of over 300 players, notably in the South Island. The balance-sheet also showed a satisfactory state of affairs. The income was £613 18s 9d, and the expenditure £460 16s lOd, leaving a balance for the year of £153 2s lid. —Croquet Annuals. A new method of distribution was agreed to. A firm of pubfishers is to take over the publishing and distributing, the cost to each player to be in the neighbourhood of lid per annual. In future each member will receive an annual. The secretary of the council will compile the annual as in the past. —lncreased Levy.— The motion was deleted in favour of the amendment from the Hawke’s Bay Association - (already published in this column). This was lost by an almost unanimous vote. —Revised Programme.— The revised programme of events for the dominion championship tournament was discussed, and was recommended to a meeting of players to bo held on Monday evening, at 8.30. —Tournaments.— The next New Zealand championships will be held in Auckland, North'lsland tournament in Wanganui, South Island tournament in Dunedin, English gold medals in Southland, gold and silver mallets in Wellington. —Honorariums.— The following honorariums were voted: —Secretary, £52 per annum ; treasurer, three guineas; auditor, two guineas. —Equipment.— A simple device for setting hoops was displayed and recommended, and can be obtained from the council secretary at a cost of ss. —Championship Tournament.— The tournament, which commenced on Friday, promises to be most successful. Two hundred and sixty-six entries liave been received, competitors coming from Auckland to Invercargill, Twelve lawns will be used—seven lawns and one bowling green at United, two lawns at Edgeware, and two lawns at Cashmere. There is an exceptionally good entry in the open singles. Over a dozen scratch or minus players have entered; in fact, the cream of New Zealand croquet players are competing.
