THE TRAMWAYS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I feel sure if the public were allowed to travel on Sundays with the concession tickets the tramways would pay.- Personally I never travel in » tram on Sunday as it is too expensive* Take .a visit to St. Clair, for instance* On a week-day with the concession ticket it costs 4d return, on Sunday a visit costs 8d return. Is it not better to fill the trams at a cheaper rate than run them as they are at present, practically empty (to the Gardens at any rate)? This time last year I was a visitor to Wellington, and was. greatly impressed with the tram service there. By buying a 3s 6d ticket (twelve rides)] one could travel long’distances at any, time for the small charge of 3Jd, including a visit to Karori or Seatouu (about three-quarters of an hour). Thq Is 6d ticket (twelve rides) Is also available for any day, and for one snick of the ticket one can travel from Courtenay place to Parliament Buildings, a; distance as long, I should say, as front Cargill’s Corner to Duke street. This* I would emphasise, costs l|d; in Dunedin 3d. The Kelburn car costs 3d for; the return trip by ticket—cheaper than! our hill trams. I would advise the* councillors to pay a visit to Wellington! and compare notes on tramway service! more than electric service. We ini Dunedin are becoming a little too selfsatisfied and bur minds need broadening. I found the Wellington tramway* wonderfully cheap, with no exorbitant charges for Sunday travel.—l am, etc.* Wake Up, Ratepayers. January 18.
