CIVIL SERVICE MEET At the Civil Service Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club championships on Tuesday night at the Caledonian Ground, the New Zealand mile champion, J. G. Barnes, who has not yet reached form, was beaten in the mile by L. C M'Lachlan, ex-New Zealand half-mile champion. The results of the events were:— 220 YARDS CHAMPIONSHIP. First heat; Thomson 1, Rotting 2, Watt 3. Time, 24 2-ssec. Second heat; Smith 1, Gerken 2, Hall 3. . Time, 24 l-asee. —Final.— A. B. Thomson 1 E. L. Rotting 2 F. C Smith 3 Time, 23 4-ssec. , Thomson led into the straight from a well bunched field, and finishing strongly, won by several yards from Rotting, who challenged desperately. / 220 YARDS JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. Asher set the pace over the first half-mile, which was done in 2min Ifisec. Barnes then took charge and led from M'Lachlan and Geddes. Entering the straight M'Lachlan challenged, and in a fine finish won by syds. Geddes was--syds further back. ONE-MILE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. A. Kirkwood 1 • W. Mackinnon ... ... ... 2 Time. 4min 53 2-ssec—a club record. Three starters. Kidkwood, making his own pace throughout, won easily in good time. 440 YARDS HURDLES CHAMPIONSHIP. J. Gerken ... ... 1 J; G; Barnes 2 L. C. M'Lachlan ... ... 3 Time, 63 2-ssec. A. Chisholm led in the early stages, but Barnes and Gerken took command down the back. Gerken coming away from the 220 yd mark, finished well to win by 8 yards from Barnes, who came up well at the finish. M'Lachlan was 15yds back third. / DISCUS. A. J. Leeden, 84ft 1 J.
