DEBATE IN CHAMBER DF DEPUTIES INVESTIGATION PROMISED J?res* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, January 13. The debate in the Chamber of Deputies was resumed with restraint, after M. Cfaautemps (Prime Minister), had promised an investigation and reforms, though he said he could not reorganise the police as that involved negotiations with the city of Paris. Deputy Garay, representing Bayonne, revived the tense atmosphere by reviewing categoribally Stravisky’s criminal career in drug trafficking, cheque swindling and the receiving of stolen goods, adding: “Nevertheless, he had powerful friettds and possessed a police pass.” Deputy Garay asked iri view of these scandals what action the Ministers were taking to prevent a repetition. Finally, he demanded a parliamentary commission, to inquire into the whole scandal.
M. Chautemps opposed this, owing to the delays and the subjection thereby of honest people to unnecessary trouble. He demanded a vote of confidence, which was'given when Deputy Garay’s motion was defeated by 360 to 229.
MADAME STRAVISKY QUESTIONED PARIS, January 13. Madame Stravisky was questioned for four hours at police headquarters and departed grief stricken and glassyeyed.
