PUBLICATION RECEIVED
THE ‘ INDEPENDENT '-NEW BRITISH JOURNAL
We liave received a copy of the first number of the ‘ Independent,’ a new journal published in London. Some idea of the guiding principles of the publication can be gleaned from the loading article. “ All the economic problems,” it savs, “ have their origins in excessive public expenditure, and no other consideration must be allowed to obscure that overshadowing fact. . . . The ‘ Independent ’ will oppose political action in all its forms; the only form of legislation which will meet with its approval is legislation to repeal legislation. Our firm belief is that, in economic matters, legislation can be of no help. Thousands of millions of public debt will be recognised by future generations, if not by ours, as adequate proof of the criminal stu; dity of the notion that polities can help us to make a living.” The journal contains articles on national and international topics of political, financial, and economic interest, and sections are devoted to other activities of the people, such ns the church, the drama, town planning, and social and domestic matters.
