BURNS CLUB

There arc not many musical societies in New Zealand which can eclipse the splendid record of the Burns Club, one of Dunedin’s oldest organisations. Last night the /507th concert was presented to a large audience in the Early Settlers’ Hall. Owing to the indisposition of the president, Air A. Af. Love, Mr Norman Brookes occupied the chair. In his opening remark'i lie referred to the success of the Hallowe'en entertainment and said that it appeared to grow in favour every year. He regretted that on this occasion n number of people had been unable to gain admission. The following enjoyable programme was then presented ; —Bagpipe selection, Piper (i . Hargreaves: song. ‘'Turn Ve to Me,' Miss Dora Drake: instrumental, ‘ Annie Laurie,’ Mr Alex Swann’s Band: song. ‘Standard on the Braes o’ Mar,’ Mr L. J. Spence: part song, * Eriskny Love Lilt.’ choir; song. Hushah.ve. Birdie.’ Miss Noni Davidson; recitation. ‘ Marmion.’ Miss Billie Robinson ; duct. ‘ For You Alone,’ Messrs 11. Cooper and G. Newton: song, ‘ Gac Back Tae Me.’ Air A. M'Dowell; concertina solo. Mr W. Holmes; part song. ‘ Killarney,’ choir. The conductor of the choir was Afr F. C. Cooper, and theaceompanist for the evening Afiss E. Wright. A dance was held at the conclusion of the concert.
