Several yacht races ; were scheduled to have been sailed,' but owjng to the rough sea the events had to be abandoned. The tennis club has had an unfortunate run of bad weather for its Saturday afternoon games lately, and the’ yankee tournament arranged for last Saturday was under way when raiiu again stopped play. Compensation for this disappointment, however, was the success of the dance held in the evening. For the non-dancers a euchre tournament was held. The dance music was supplied by the Majestic Orchestra, Mrs Hawes giving an extra. Mr W. Gibson acted ns M.C. To celebrate their fifth anniversary, the : local companies of Girl Guides and Brownies held a birthday party on Monday evening, ,7'he visitors included representatives from Highclifi, Oiakou, and Cavcrsham, also Miss Reynolds, the instigator oM.bc movement in the Bay. 1 he ladies of the committee bad spared no trouble in the preparation of the tea, and a tempting and choicely laden ‘

table was spread, prominent being the birthday cake, with its five candles, which were duly lit. Articles made by, the girls were displayed on one stall, and a jumble stall was conducted by a committee of ladies. During the evening items were rendered by the following Display of marching and musical drill and part and action songs by [lie Guides; piano solo by Alison Budd ; recitation by Ida liodwcll; a duet by two Brownies (Irene Dhyberg and Pearl Nelson). A pleasing little function was the presentation of bouquets lo the captain ami president.
