RETURNED SOLDIERS’ AFFAIRS
MEETING OF R.S.A. COMMITTEE The Executive Committee of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association met last night, those present being Messrs A. J. Gordon (president). A. APHutchon, A. Falconer, W. F. Forrester, J. S. Skinner, G. Fcrens, L. J. Napier, A. G. Lcetleu, P. S. Anderson, A. C; Laing, A. Thomas, and H. L. Paterson. MEMBERSHIP. Twenty nominations for membership and one for honorary membership were approved. Three transfers outward were approved. The Secretary reported that the membership of the New Zealand R.S.A. at September 30 was 14,150. In the membership campaign contest between associations of Christchurch and Dunedin it was reported that at October 31 the figures were: — Dunedin 1.891, Christchurch 1,(395. The Chairman said the position was very satisfactory. The Dunedin mem bership had now reached over 1,900 VISIT OF GENERAL SECRETARY. Arrangements were confirmed for the visit to Dunedin of the general secretary (Mr S. G. Harrison) of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association. it having been decided to hold a meeting in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Tuesday, November 21, to allow Air Harrison to address ex-servicemen on matters concerning the welfare of returned men. Items are to be rendered during the evening by the Returned Soldiers’ Choir. CHRISTMAS TREAT. ,T.t was reported that it was intended to hold the annual Christmas treat for the children of deceased and badly disabled soldiers on Saturday, December 16, in the grounds of First Church. APPRECIATION. The Chairman reported that Air H. L. Paterson had resigned from his position as the representative of the association on the Mayor’s Relief Committee, with which he had been connected since 1928. It was decided .to place on record the committee’s appreciation of the very fine work earned out by Mr Paterson towards the relief of distress during the years 1928-33. GRANT FROA! TRUST FUND. The Perpetual Trustees, Estate, and Agency Company Ltd. wrote stating it hud just -been allocated money which it had in hand in the Grace Lillian Alitchell trust fund, to be expended for the relief and benefit of people in destitute circumstances, especially those adversely affected by -the Groat War. The sum of £IOO had been assessed to the R.5.A.,, and a cheque for that amount was enclosed. WELCOME TO AIR HARPER. The Chairman welcomed Air J. D. Harper, dominion honorary treasurer, and representative of the R.S.A. on the War Pensions Board, who. dismissed several matters with; the executive.
