m P. C. WEBB LABOUR'S CHOICE STATEMENT BY EXECUTIVE (Pint United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 17. The National Executive of the Labour Party has issued the following statement: — “ A meeting of representatives of all trade unions and Labour Party brandies in Bulicr electorate was held at Westport during tbo week-end. The Hon. Mark Fagan, M.L.C., represented tbo National Executive of the party. The question of the successor to the late Mr Holland as Labour candidate for Butler was fully discussed. It was decided to submit four names for consideration by the National Executive, with whom, according to the Labour Party’s constitution, rests the final decision in respect to the selection of the candidate at a by-election. The representatives present unanimously resolved to support which ever of the four nominees would be selected, by the National Executive. The four names forwarded were those of Messrs P. C. Webb, J. Smeaton, R. Holland, and J. Thorn. The National Executive met this morning. Two of tho men whose names were submitted by the Westport meeting were not available as candidates, and Mr P. C. Webb was selected, and will contest the scat in the interests of Labour.”
