LAND TRANSFER BUSINESS
AN UNUSUAL CHARGE [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 7. An unusual charge was brought today by the Auckland Law Society against Lewis A. Tozer, company director, and also against his company. In effect, the charge was that, not being a licensed broker or barrister and solicitor, he falsely pretended to be entitled to transact land transfer business.
Tho prosecution said that the defendant had sent out circulars intimating that he could and would, for £1 plus disbursements, get a person a full land transfer title. The defendant said his company merely acted as agents, and did no conveyancing, but merely received the registrar’s minutes and registered them. They drew up no documents. The Magistrate said the defendant ought to know he could not transact such business without being a licensed broker. The defendant and the company were each lined £lO.
