WELLINGTON R.C.

RED SUN WINS BIG HANDICAP RULING LIGHT SCORES AGAIN The Summer Meeting of the Wellington Racing Club was continued at Trontham to-day in fine, warm weather after rain overnight and a cloudburst in the morning. As a result the track was soft to start with, but improved as the day advanced. The attendance was large. Owing to dead heats there was an unprecedented dominion record of five dividends in the first and last races. The inquiry into Barry’s handling of Tippling in the Anniversary Handicap on the first day was concluded. The stewards expressed dissatisfaction with Barry’s riding, but as evidence showed that there was interference they gave him the benefit of the doubt. At the same time they administered a severe caution. . An inquiry was held into the fall ot La Poupee in the January Handicap, and all the evidence showed that it was caused by the outside horses being squeezed in by Hula Belle crossing, and the rider, L. J. Ellis, was suspended for fourteen days. The stewards also expressed regret that such an experienced rider as R. Reed was unable to help them by his evidence. The win pool handled £10,040 10s and the place pool £18,920, a total of £28,960 10s. The second day last year was a holiday, when £44,416 was handled. Detailed results:—
