OBITUARY
MR L. CURTIS A little more than three weeks ago Mr Leon Curtis, of Queenstown, was shaking hands on the Dunedin station with a number of friends who were wishing him a pleasant voyage to England. He travelled by the Rangitiki, which made Napier her final port or departure on November 26, his purpose being to visit his father. It was noticed that Mr Curtis looked rather unwell, but he professed to be in good spirits, expecting benefit from the rest at sea. Such was not to be. A cable message announces that he had _ to leave the vessel at Panama and go into hospital there, and that he died on Friday of last week. He was for a long time the proprietor of M'Bride’s Hotel, a house much frequented by tourists and visitors, and in that capacity became known to overseas people, as well as New Zealanders. He also became prominent in local activities. He reached the age of forty-nine. His widow is left with two daughters.
