BIG BILLIARDS. LONDON, December 13.—Much interest is being displayed in the billiards test. The spectators were thrilled at seeing the “ big four ” in action. The totals at the cud of the second day's- play were: Australia and New Zealand 5,213, England -1,831. During the afternoon session Lindrnm playing against Davis scored 1,009, while the latter scored 315. Newman playing against AFConachy scored 812, while the New Zealander scored ■llO. At the evening session Lindrurn scored G 92 and Davis 534. AT'Conachy scored 726 (including 422 unfinished) and Newman 400.
UNEMPLOYMENT FUND. The acting Minister of Employment, Hon. A. Hamilton, In answer to the resolutions passed at the public meeting at Auckland on Sunday regarding tho serious unemployment situation, intends to set out tho position fully from the viewpoint of the unemployment fund. “As evidence that the board is straining every nerve to assist,” added Mr Hamilton. “ our weekly allocations for relief work are above our average weekly income from tho wage tax.”—Parliamentary reporter.
AHEAD OF RECORD. GAO, December 13. —Airs Amy Alollison arrived here 5.30 this evening, nearly a day ahead of the record. Sho hopes to resume at 3 o'clock to-morrow morning. LONDON, December 13.—1 tis reported that Mrs Alollison at 12.30 had passed Lokoja, almost halfway to Gao* CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE. At the Christchurch wool sale, .at the opening, fine wools sold on a par with those of the first sale of last year. Cross-brcds were about Id down. Compared with the sale in Alarch, luilf-breds were from Id to Id higher. There was sustained competition for halfbreeds.—Christchurch Press Association telegram.
