FARMERS’ UNION

WAIKOUAITi BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti branch of tho N.Z.F.U. was held in the St. John’s Hall. Mr J. Maxwell (president) presided over a good attendance of members. The following resolutions were carried; — “ That as the Flock House scheme was doing a good work and tho 600 boys who had gone through were doing well for themselves, the Provincial Council having accepted the responsibility of sendone boy from Otago, this branch was quite willing to give a donation towards the training of one boy.” “ That as the shearers and shed hands’ award expired on October 21 and as no agreement had been reached with the representatives of the Workers’ Union regarding rates of pay, this meeting falls in with the rates of pay for the 1932-33 shearing season recommended by the sheepowners of Otago and Southland districts.” Mr Win, Lee spoke on Power Board matters in regard to the changing of the meetings from Dunedin to Milton. This was being recommended by some of the Power Board members, as it was suggested that by doing so a saving would be made financially. _Mr _ Lee said be was all for the saving if it could be proved that a saving coultj, be effected by the change. The Secretary reminded members that poison grain for the small bird pest was now ready at the country office and that all ratepayers were entitled to at least one bag. A copy of an address given by Mrs Techemaker in Hawke’s Bay was read advising all farmers to join the Farmers’ Union and not to all pull against one another, as was so common among farmers. By sticking together they would be much stronger and could do better work, Aften an enjoyable supper (provided by members of the women’s division) Mrs Tait read a very interesting and instructive paper on the fireless cooker.
