LEAGUE ASSEMBLY
THE GENEVA MEETING Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 28. (Received September 29, at 12.55 p.m.) The Press Association’s special correspondent at Geneva says that Mr Osborne was appointed vice-president of the Assembly’s Social Question Committee, whose subjects include child welfare, traffic in women and children, dangerous drugs, and penal reform, which Mr Osborne is particularly fitted to discuss. Special Commonwealth interest attaches to the committee, as an Australian, Mr Duncan Hall, is director of the League’s organisation dealing with the drug traffic. Mr Osborne also conducts Australia’s work in connection with securing women’s co-operation in the League’s activities. The Budget Committee, on which Sir Thomas Wilford represents New Zealand—Australian representation is thus far lacking—has commenced the work of what promises to become the most controversial question—European union—which will shortly come before the Political Committee, and is likely to meet with criticism from the dominions, which resent the League’s tendency to become a purely European body in economic matters.
